Latest! Sports Relief for Heart FM appeal

All pupils enjoyed flexing their muscles and completing their Sport Relief Mile - approximately seven laps of the KS1 and KS2 playground.  There was a wonderful atmosphere, helped by the sun shining!

The highlight of the morning was forming an enormous heart shape on the playground, which was photographed by Mr. Ingham and Mr. White who appeared on the School roof, much to the excitement of all.

We look forward to calculating the final amount raised - an excellent effort from all pupils

Latest! FOPLS Children's Friday March 26th

Don't forget the children's disco next Friday.

It was a full house for the recent Easter Egg Bingo event with about 150 adults and children enjoying the eyes down evening at school.  Many thanks to FOPLS for organising this successful event.

Latest! Year 5's work on Kenya

Year 5's have experienced a taste of Africa. They spent the morning preparing some staple Kenyan dishes like Irio, Ugali and Chappati - and then spent the afternoon eating them.

Latest! Home Access Scheme!

You will be receiving a letter giving information about the Home Access scheme, which enables families who do not have computers at home to get one completely free of charge.  Families of pupils from Year 3 upwards who meet certain criteria, such as Free School Meals, are eligible.  Please contact the school if you would like help applying.

Latest! Nursery Sports Relief!

Nursery pupils had a great time dancing on the playground and raising money for Sports Relief.

They tried a variety of dance styles (including line dancing and hip hop) but this was the most popular! The children really enjoyed themselves.

The rest of the school are looking forward to their fundraising this Friday.

Latest! Good Vibrations - science, music & maths!

Year 6 had a lovely trip to Cambridge to see the Good Vibrations presentation at West Road Concert Hall which was a lively look at sound and how it travels - linked to Maths and Science. All pupils responded well to the performances which were amazing.

The walk around Cambridge backs in the sunshine was perfect - watching the punts on the Cam and spotting colleges. Pupils tried to recreate images around the walk on their cameras and camera phones to try and snap the same shot - they really enjoyed using their phones for a purpose.  It was lovely to see year 6 enjoying a bit of culture.... the only moaning was about the walk - we're sure they'll be lots of tired pupils tonight!

Latest! Environmental news!

Great news - The poly tunnel is now finished and is looking really fantastic. Now we can all be busy growing fruit, vegetables and plants.

Eco Club members are very proud of the willow tepee they planted last night. They used shoots that had previously been trimmed from the bowers. Lets hope it grows really well so on hot sunny days we can sit in a lovely shady place.

Latest! Year 6 Science work

Some Year 6 pupils had a great time last week at Sir Harry Smith separating materials in the science lab using filtration and evaporation processes - they felt like real scientists!

Latest! Skip to be Fit

19 KS2 pupils of all ages who had attended TOPS sports clubs at school were invited to Sir Harry Smith's recently to take part in a skipping workshop.  We had 2 winners - Natasha for the Best Effort and Lucy for doing the most skips in 2 minutes.  Well done to everyone who attended - and they all had a fantastic time.

Latest! Foxes Class Assembly

Ahoy there! We all enjoyed a fantastic assembly by the Foxes on Pirates - the pirates all had lessons from the Captain on how to be a good pirate and learnt such things as Pirate speak and how to wash down the deck.

All the parents now know their children can do lots more jobs at home as well!

Latest! New weather station

We would all like to say a very big thank you to The Friends of Park Lane for buying our new wireless weather station. The monitor is on the wall in the main hall near East wing door.  Both children and adults are enjoying keeping an eye on our local weather.

Latest! Cheerleading for Year 5 and 6

Cheerleading came to Park Lane school on Monday afternoon with pupils from years 5 and 6 getting the chance to shake their pom poms.

After being taught some moves like the chicken, shark, wiggle and the John Travolta pupils were given the chance to put these moves into a dance of their own. We look forward to seeing what else they learn over the next 4 weeks.

Latest! A Victorian teacher arrives!

A new Victorian teacher came to drill Year 3 in the playground, and undertake some rather severe teaching in the classroom. Year 3 will certainly have a good insight in their new topic on the Victorians.

Other presentations have been about dancing,  Karate, pets, trips to the zoo, Brownies  and chickens.

Latest! Visiting author

Pupils from Y2 to Y6 were visited by Jack Trelawny, who talked to them about the latest series of books he has written. He also encouraged the pupils to think about how they start writing stories and what sort of ideas can really entertain their reader.

A lot of pupils bought one of his books and were lucky enough to have it signed by Jack Trelawny!!

Mrs Bradshaw and Miss Brownsea, who normally teach in Year 6, went to Reception where the pupils did two activities; one activity re-creating a piece of artwork by Mondrian and one activity re-creating artwork by Jackson Pollock (splatter painting).

All the pupils worked really hard and the picture shows some of the artwork they created.

The children had a wonderful morning and welcomed Fireman Jim in to the Nursery with great enthusiasm. We were so proud of the children who sat really beautifully, showed their good manners and listened to the important safety message about not touching matches. Fireman Jim had brought some big photos of the types of jobs he does and he showed us how quickly he can put his special clothes on. What an exciting day!
