Latest!  Poly Tunnel

There was a huge growth spurt in the poly tunnel over the summer break.

Both pupils and catering staff were busy harvesting crops, specially tomatoes...

but the biggest change was the size of the tallest sunflower.  Amazing!

Latest!  School Lunch

The children had a great first day lunchtime ..... new pupils were on monitoring duty and fulfilled their roles admirably...

while others were just happy to catch up on the latest gossip.

Latest!  First Day back to school

Some of the children looked slightly nervous as they gathered on the playground this morning - but fortunately they were all smiles by the time they got into their classroom

Click on the Resources page to see all the children in their new classes.

Latest! Park Lane Road Closure

All the children got safely into school on Thursday despite the road re-surfacing outside the school.

Footpaths were open and pedestrian access to the site enabled everyone to get in on time.  The contractors ensured they didn't start their work nearest the school until all the children were in.

Many thanks for your patience with this.

Latest! School Site Improvements

Lots of work was undertaken at school during the summer break.  New carpet has been fitted in the Foxes and Squirrels classes to finish their refurbishment, and the Nursery has been redecorated.

The raised beds have also been flattened in South Playground which have really opened up the space, and will be less of a tripping hazard for the children.

And finally, new signs have been put up to signpost pedestrians and motorist visitors to the school more clearly.  The Boyce Close entrance, through the bike sheds, is the main pedestrian route in for the office, and so we have made improvements to this as well, by resurfacing the concrete floor and repainting the bike sheds.  We hope to add some planting to soften this after the term starts.

Latest! Gold Attendance Certificates

20 pupils celebrated their excellent full school attendance over the last year by receiving a special Gold Attendance Certificate.  Well done to all those pupils, and some as young as Reception!

Latest! Year 6 Leavers

Year 6 children had a fantastic last week - they enjoyed their leavers BBQ and disco,

a special Year 6 school lunch

and then entertained their parents and the school with a great Leavers assembly.

Thank you to all our Year 6s for their contributions to school over this year.

Latest! Swimming Gala

Two teams from Park Lane walked down to AJS on Friday to take part in a swimming gala. After many fine performances and lots of hard work Park Lane Blue team came second and Park Lane White team came fourth. Well done to all those involved.

Latest! Guide Dog Amy visits the school

Sue and her Guide Dog, Amy, visited the younger children at school. Sue spent time explaining how Amy is trained to look after her so she is able to go for walks, shopping and even go on the Underground in London. The children really enjoyed their visit and we would like to say a big thank you to Sue and Amy.

Thank you also to Mrs Wheatley for arranging the visit  and taking Sue and Amy to each class.

Latest! FOPLS Duck Race

FOPLS wish to thank all those who supported the 2010 duck race by sponsoring a duck, attending the event and helping with its organisation. We managed to sell all of the 149 ducks (1 having already escaped on an earlier practice run) and we could have sold more but we were unsure how well the event would be supported. Next year we will have more with the possibility of a few individual character ducks. We wish to thank the firefighters from Whittlesey station who helped the ducks paddle a bit faster and the people in the canoes who did a marvellous job in collecting the ducks.

If you happen to be on holiday at Hunstanton over the summer please keep a look out for our lost blue duck which answers to the name of Quack!

Latest! DVD orders

Would anyone that has ordered a DVD of KS1 Production or Music & Dance Evening please send in their £5 payment in a named envelope to Mrs Quince, and not to the school office - all the DVDs are ready.

Latest! The Vikings arrive!

Year 5 took part in a Viking day - 'real' Vikings came in to talk about Viking home life and warfare.  The children used Viking runes to solve puzzles and also helped the Vikings by designing some new shields for them to use in battle.

The highlight of the day was a wager fight between two of the Vikings; sparks flew as they clashed swords and the children cheered them on.  Finally it ended with a huge feast - some of the children will be asking for nettle soup for tea in the future!!

Latest! Official Opening of the Poly Tunnel

The whole school went to see Potato Pete cut the ribbon on the poly tunnel and announce it officially open!

A huge thank you to all the people who helped including FOPLS, Peter Humphries Associates who helped with the planning application and FenMark, for bringing Potato Pete Money was raised from the Norwich & Peterborough Building Society, News International and parents.  Other parents helped by donating topsoil, donating slabs or by laying the paths.  A great effort by everyone so many thanks - especially to Mrs Hughes and Mrs Banks as well.

Latest! Yr 4 Hinchingbrooke Park visit

Year 4 had a lovely day out at Hinchingbrooke Park recently.  After an enjoyable walk around the park they then ate their lunch in the shade.... and tested the homemade lunch boxes they had designed and made in DT. They DID actually keep sandwiches nice and cool despite the scorching weather!

They also enjoyed a variety of weather activities after lunch and a play on the trim trail.

Latest! Maths Challenge

Park Lane came third out of 32 schools in the annual Kings School Maths challenge recently, just pipped for second by AJS, another Whittlesey school.

The team were Morgan and Jessica from Year 6 and Brandon and Emily from year 5. They were supported by Jacob Masters a former Park Lane student, who was assigned as their 6th form mentor.

The children each received a bronze medal, a certificate and a prize. They also brought back a trophy for the school. They all had a fantastic day, and well done to the four of them, and Mrs Everden who accompanied them.

Latest! Music Concert

Park Lane held their annual Music and Dance Concert recently. A wide range of instruments were showcased by pupils from year 2 to 6.  A large crowd of parents and friends were entertained by individual and group performances, songs from the choir and dances from the Tu Danse group, country dancers and year 6 dance group.

Pupils were even entertained by the staff who gave a performance of Thank you for the Music. Well done to everyone involved.

Latest! Look Out, there's PIRATES about!

The Nursery was invaded by a mutinous bunch of Pirates recently.

They were caught digging for treasure, building a huge ship on the playground and munching on scurvy biscuits! Luckily we managed to round most of them up and they were made to walk the plank!

We will keep our telescopes trained on the horizon in case there are any future attacks!

Latest! Year 5 trip to York

The children felt on the 8.15 a.m. train to York feeling very excited..... and were looking forward t their visit to the Jorvik Centre.

Digging at the 'dig' later in the afternoon.

Latest! Westwood Athletics

Hurrah!

The athletics team of year 3,4,5 and 6 pupils took part in the annual athletics tournament at Westwood Primary school in March. They took part in a variety of events including throwing, jumping, long and short distance running and relays. All pupils have worked extremely hard this year giving up their own time to attend training sessions and have shown a real commitment to being part of a team. Although it was extremely close this year between all 7 schools taking part, this is now the 4th year in a row that we have brought the trophy back to Park Lane.

Mr Ingham and Miss Brownsea would like to thank all the children for their hard work and the parents for their support.

Latest! Rounders Tournament

20 Year 5 pupils went to AJS recently to take part in a rounders festival against Year 6 pupils. They all thoroughly enjoyed themselves and played very well scoring lots of rounders and taking many catches.

Latest! Re-Cycling Bus

As part of their topic on Wind Turbines year 5 and 6 pupils had a special visit on Wednesday from the Cambridgeshire Recycling Bus led by Nick King.

Using only recycled materials pupils independently made their own working water wheels. It was a very enjoyable day for all and it was a pleasure to see the pupils so interested in their work.

Latest! Sports week

Key stage 2 had a fantastic sports day in the sun. Pupils took part in a range of activities working together with a partner from the same team colour and by the end of the afternoon all years 3, 4, 5 and 6 pupils had scored points for their own team. The overall winners were Green. It was great to see so many parents attend both the morning and the afternoon sports day and also how well the pupils performed. We'd also like to thank Stephen Harris and James Storr from LLoyds Bank for supporting the event and presenting the trophy at the end of the day. Pictures will be posted soon. Other sports days are taking place later this week and we welcome parents to attend.

Latest! Summer Fayre

A massive crowd enjoyed the fun of the fayre on Saturday.  Click here to see some images.  Well done to the FOPLS committee and many helpers for making the day so successful.  More news later about the amounts raised so thank you for all your support.

Latest! Viking Longboats

Year 5 set off on some Viking raids in their Longboats. Most of the boats could carry the full 40 crew needed to safely and quickly row across the stormy seas - although a few needed some alterations to the sails to keep them afloat and stop them drowning the crew! A few boats also carried an extra 1.6 kg and some of the children's shoes as well!

Latest! Year 5 and 6 visit the windfarm

Year 5 had an informative trip to the Coldham Windfarm.  The children were amazed by just how massive the wind turbines are and now know much more about renewable energy.  They all had to wear hard hats and safety goggles at all times.

They were able to listen to the vibrations of the electricity generator by resting our elbows on the side of the turbine. Year 6 have the opportunity to visit later in the week.

Latest! Dance Festival

Two groups of Park Lane dancers joined in a Dance Festival organised by Alderman Jacob's School for local schools.  It was a fantastic evening with all dancers performing well in front of parents and friends.

Well done to the Country dancers, and the Hip Hop group.

Latest! 400 metres race

61 Year 4, 5 and 6 pupils took part in the annual 400 metre event. There were lots of very impressive performances with 1st place in the girls going to Kelsea, 2nd place to Sabina and 3rd place to Lucy. In the boys event, it was so close that we had to have a photo finish for 2nd and 3rd place! In 3rd place was Billy, 2nd place went to Tom and 1st place went to Morgan.
