Poly Tunnel
There was a huge growth spurt in the
poly tunnel over the summer break.
Both pupils and catering staff were busy
harvesting crops, specially tomatoes...

but the biggest change was the size of
the tallest sunflower. Amazing!

Park Lane Road Closure
All the
children got
safely into
school on
Thursday
despite the
road
re-surfacing
outside the
school.

Footpaths
were open
and
pedestrian
access to
the site
enabled
everyone to
get in on
time.
The
contractors
ensured they
didn't start
their work
nearest the
school until
all the
children
were in.
Many thanks
for your
patience
with this.

School Site Improvements
Lots of work
was
undertaken
at school
during the
summer
break.
New carpet
has been
fitted in
the Foxes
and
Squirrels
classes to
finish their
refurbishment,
and the
Nursery has
been
redecorated.

The raised
beds have
also been
flattened in
South
Playground
which have
really
opened up
the space,
and will be
less of a
tripping
hazard for
the
children.

And finally,
new signs
have been
put up to
signpost
pedestrians
and motorist
visitors to
the school
more
clearly.
The Boyce
Close
entrance,
through the
bike sheds,
is the main
pedestrian
route in for
the office,
and so we
have made
improvements
to this as
well, by
resurfacing
the concrete
floor and
repainting
the bike
sheds.
We hope to
add some
planting to
soften this
after the
term starts.

Guide Dog Amy visits the school
Sue
and her Guide Dog, Amy, visited the
younger children at school. Sue spent
time explaining how Amy is trained to
look after her so she is able to go for
walks, shopping and even go on the
Underground in London. The
children really enjoyed their visit and
we would like to say a big thank you to
Sue and Amy.

Thank you also to Mrs Wheatley for
arranging the visit and taking Sue and
Amy to each class.

FOPLS Duck Race
FOPLS wish to thank all those who
supported the 2010 duck race by
sponsoring a duck, attending the event
and helping with its organisation. We
managed to sell all of the 149 ducks (1
having already escaped on an earlier
practice run) and we could have sold
more but we were unsure how well the
event would be supported. Next year we
will have more with the possibility of a
few individual character ducks. We wish
to thank the firefighters from
Whittlesey station who helped the ducks
paddle a bit faster and the people in
the canoes who did a marvellous job in
collecting the ducks.

If you happen to be on holiday at
Hunstanton over the summer please keep a
look out for our lost blue duck which
answers to the name of Quack!

The Vikings arrive!
Year 5 took part in
a Viking day -
'real' Vikings came
in to talk about
Viking home life and
warfare. The
children used Viking
runes to solve
puzzles and also
helped the Vikings
by designing some
new shields for them
to use in battle.

The highlight of the
day was a wager
fight between two of
the Vikings; sparks
flew as they clashed
swords and the
children cheered
them on. Finally it
ended with a huge
feast - some of the
children will be
asking for nettle
soup for tea in the
future!!
