Latest! Creativity Week

All the teachers swapped classes and taught something creative in another year group this week. Mrs Bradshaw and Miss Brownsea, who normally teach in Year 6, went to Reception where the pupils did two activities; one activity re-creating a piece of artwork by Mondrian and one activity re-creating artwork by Jackson Pollock (splatter painting).

All the pupils worked really hard and the picture shows some of the artwork they created.

Latest! Haiti Totals

The collective results of the fundraising from school, and parents exceeded £1500 - well done to everyone concerned.

Our latest contribution came from Year 4 who raised a grand total of £377.28 by selling cakes, homemade bookmarks and did a sponsored silence.  Well done Yr 4.

Also Year 6 pupils Jessica, Millie, Megan and Ashlin spent one of their days hopping from place to place. They had a tiring day hopping around, but they managed to raised a staggering £90.60, which has been added to the amount already raised by the rest of the school. Well done girls.

Latest! What a Princess!

The Squirrels told a story of a very unusual Princess in their class assembly - much to the delight of their parents and the school.

Then all of Year 1 had a sumptuous banquet as part of their work on Castles.

Latest! Just say "Aahhh"

The Nursery welcomed their final visitor with more information about People Who Help Us. This time it was Hannah's Mum who is a Community Nurse. They learnt how to bandage poorly arms, look carefully in peoples ears and how to use a stethoscope. Bethan and Anna had great fun taking it in turns to use the stethoscope like a real nurse.

Latest! Using technology at Park Lane

Year 4 children are completely engaged with their task of playing brain gym exercises with each other on Nintendos

whilst Year 6 pupils were using Flipcams to record information about their topic on Japan.

All ages of children at Park Lane are used to using these technologies independently to support their learning.

Latest! "Hello, hello, hello"

PC Wright and PC Locke came to visit the Nursery children and told them all the different ways the police can help us. The children were very interested in their belts that had so many different tools and pieces of equipment attached.- especially when they could use the special police walkie-talkies!

A big thank you from all the Nursery children to these two jolly policemen.

Latest! Haiti Fund Raising

East 2 were one of the last classes last week to hold their fundraising event to raise money for the Haiti disaster. The children brought money to school on Friday in exchange for playing games for half an hour and also sold cakes to other pupils in the school. As well as this, Ashley made a gingerbread house which pupils could buy raffle tickets for. A winning raffle ticket was drawn in today's assembly and the photo shows Lucy as the proud winner!

E2 so far have raised £55, well done!!

Latest! New Lockers for Year 5 & 6

We are all very excited about the arrival of new lockers for the older pupils.

The locker project was planned by a group of Gifted and Talented pupils who had to measure the area, source and cost the lockers, and decide on the positioning - helped by Mr White and Mrs Triscott.  The lockers will be put into East Wing next week as well.

Latest! Year 6 Residential to France

We are very pleased to announce that we will be going ahead with the Year 6 residential trip to France in May. We didn't get the number of families we initially needed to make the trip viable, but Kingswood agreed to run with this number.  We are already looking forward to going.

Latest! FOPLS Children's Disco

A great time was had by all at the recent disco - including a dance by Park Lane's Michael Jackson, Robert.

Many thanks to the Friends of Park Lane, FOPLS, for organising these well attended events.

Latest! Rabbit's Class Assembly

Pantomime fever hit Park Lane parents and children as the Rabbits produced their own version of Cinderella for their class assembly.  It was fantastic with great performances by all the children.  Well done to Miss Carter and her team.

Latest! Year 6 Playground leaders

A group of Year 6 pupils are being trained up as playground leaders with the help of Mrs Cradock from Sir Harry Smith Community College.

These pupils will then support younger children with playground activities during break and lunchtimes.

Latest! Nee Naw Nee Naw

The children had a wonderful morning and welcomed Fireman Jim in to the Nursery with great enthusiasm. We were so proud of the children who sat really beautifully, showed their good manners and listened to the important safety message about not touching matches. Fireman Jim had brought some big photos of the types of jobs he does and he showed us how quickly he can put his special clothes on. What an exciting day!

All the ladies were very impressed too- especially Mrs Hughes when he showed us the photo of a donkey he had rescued from a well!

Latest! Reception Haiti fundraising

Reception children had a sponsored Show and Tell session as their contribution to raising funds for the Haiti earthquake appeal - and really enjoyed themselves at the same time.

Other fund raising events arranged are colouring competitions, How many sweets in a jar, selling bookmarks, a Beetle Drive and many other things.  Many individual children are organising their own Fund Raising as well so we'll keep everyone posted about the money raised.

Latest! Artist in Residence

Miss Carter's hard work drew results this week when Mr Rob Howard came and worked with the Year 5 group and families as part of the successful Awards for All bid.

Mr Howard will be working with all year groups and their families throughout the school as part of this project based on clay modelling ....this group made masks.....and everyone had fun.

Latest! Haiti donations

The money raised so far on our dress down day, and including some staff and parental donations is £541 so many thanks to everybody.  Further updates will be given when we receive any more money in, after the classes undertake their own fundraising.

Class fund raising has also started....with Year 2 making a substantial sum of money with their Hook a Duck game on the playground at lunchtime.

Latest! Year 3 Trip to Peterborough

Year 3 enjoyed their visit to Peterborough Cathedral and museum last Friday - despite the rain.

Latest! Hedgehogs 'Titantic' assembly

The Hedgehogs gave an informative and entertaining assembly to their parents and the school last week all about the doomed voyage of Titanic. Well done to all the children and adults involved. This picture shows Park Lane's Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio on the deck of the Titanic.

Latest! Early Years Straw Bear Parade

Reception and Nursery children enjoyed their own Straw Bear parade in school when Straw Bear visitors brought musicians and demonstrated how they made the bears and the history behind the Straw Bear.

The children ended by following the bear and the musicians in their own parade.

Latest! Straw bear Pictures

Click here to see a selection of this year's Straw Bear pictures. Our wonderful group of Molly Dancers made all their costumes, and choreographed their own dances.

Latest! 'Life and Times' folk duo visit the school

As part of our Straw Bear celebrations a group called 'Life and Times' put on a show for all the children. The group took us all around the country singing songs from winter time celebrations.

With each song a small group of Park Lane children were whisked off behind the scenes to get dressed in traditional costumes and learn a quick performance. We had Molly Dancing, Sword Dancing, Wassailing and even a fire festival from Stonehaven in Scotland.

Latest! Straw Bear Festivities have begun at Park Lane

Year 5 entertained parents and children by showcasing all the work they had been doing about Whittlesey, and in particular the Straw Bear in their assembly this week.

We welcomed the Ceilidh band 'Fruitcake' to school this morning to entertain some KS2 children in the lead up week to the Whittlesea Straw Bear.

Remember that some Year 5 pupils will be performing their Molly Dance and be part of the procession so we look forward to seeing you there.

Latest! Year 5 Rocket Launch Project

Despite the bad weather with travelling Mrs Gregory, Mr Ingham and their classes had a wonderful time at Cambridge University experiencing a practical workshop in making a rocket launcher - all the children then went outside to see the rockets being launched.

Latest! A Good start to term

We were all very pleased to see the children back at the start of term and looking forward to a new term in school.  We are posting all the new class webcasts this week - so be sure to have a look and see what your child will be covering in class this term. Click here to get to the page.

Latest! Adverse Weather conditions

The school did look wonderful and wintery in the snow on the last day of term.  What a shame we didn't see the term out though. There may be more incidents of inclement weather during January but we will do our best to inform parents of any school changes at the earliest opportunity.  We will make every endeavour to stay open so please assume we will be open and look for further clarification.  Thank you.
